CLASS DESCRIPTONS

Kahiko Style Hula Cheorography with Kumu Hula Carol Morgal (www.iahula.com)
9:00am - 10:30am
Kahiko is the ancient style of Hawaiian. Performed to chant, it is usually ceremonial and to honor ancient dieties. Some history will also be included.

African Dance with Melissa Kandido
10:40am - 12:10pm
This class will warm you up and move muscles you never knew you had! It can be high or low impact, depending on your comfort level. We will learn moves from Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Ghana, the Caribbean (still part of the African Diaspora!), and even some Northern African belly dance moves! It is a level of fitness that is fun for the soul. You will learn the history of the moves and how they represent women’s lives. Come dressed comfortably.

Zills for Beginners and Beyond with Isis
1:30pm - 3:00pm
Even if you have never held a pair of zills in your hand before, jump right in.  We will cover basic zill patterns then add movements and traveling.  A miniature choreography may even result from this adventure!  Intermediate and some advanced zill work will also be covered as well as rhythms.  A pair (4 zills) is required for this class.  Brass, student zills are recommended but higher level zills are perfectly acceptable.  Please, no outdoor zills.

Flamenco Basics: Arms and Skirt with Maya Gracia
3:10pm - 4:40pm
This workshop will explore Braceo (armwork), Floreo (handwork), Falda (skirtwork), and basic Flamenco posture/turns with focus on how to incorporate these movements into other forms of dance.
