About Shakira al Fanninah |
Shakira al Fanninah began studying Middle Eastern dance, music and culture as a child, and has been seriously involved in it for over 25 years. She now teaches and performs internationally. Her background is enriched by four years of Medical School and 12 years study of and work with movement awareness disciplines: Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method and Dr. Paul Linden’s Being in Movement. As a result of this, and studies of how to teach and critique for best results, she possesses an almost incomparable ability to see, understand, analyze, break down and transmit the important qualities of movements, gestures, attitudes--all the elements of the dance. Her studies in body language, theater, and other disciplines keep her attuned to “big picture” dynamics and textures as well, and she teaches these with equal care and clarity. |

Dance Dynamics |
12:00pm - 2:00pm |
What makes the difference between the average show and one that makes you think “Wow, she was amazing!”? Between the dancer whose show doesn’t quite stay with you and the one you can’t forget? And why isn’t that dancer who seemed so fiery and fast, or did all that layering, memorable? Probably because of dynamics. Dynamics can help you fill in what you might be missing—and know what not to do. When you know what these are and how to work with them, everything you do will be interesting, and nothing will be flat! Learn the secrets to being the dancer audiences can’t get out of their heads—don’t be “just another dancer” ever again! |
Multiple Veil (up to 4) |
3:00pm - 5:00pm |
You’ve seen the double veil that everyone’s doing. It’s time to go [well] beyond that! Did you know there are actually entirely different styles of double and multiple veil, usable with different dance styles, themes, moods and in different circumstances? In this class you’ll be presented with dynamic, dramatic alternatives that others *aren’t* doing! Learn how to use (and drape) multiple veils and how to enrich their use with images and themes. You’ll be able to create your *own* showstopping style. You’ll learn how to use not just two, but as many as *four* veils. And you’ll learn a “color change” illusion unique to Shakira that has to be seen to be believed! |
